Truck Wheel Balancer Adapters: Match the Cone, Collet or Plate to the Wheel and Machine

Truck balancing hardware is not one universal cone. Large-bore hub-centric wheels, lug-centric truck wheels and medium-duty assemblies can require different centering parts—and the balancer still has to support the wheel’s weight and dimensions.

A truck adapter does not turn every balancer into a heavy-duty balancer

A truck wheel may need a larger cone, collet, spacer or lug-centric plate simply to mount correctly on the shaft. That mounting hardware is only one part of the decision. The balancer must also support the wheel assembly's published weight, diameter and width, and the shop needs enough physical clearance to spin the assembly safely.

For that reason, this guide separates centering compatibility from machine capacity. A documented truck cone kit can solve a large center-bore problem without proving that the underlying balancer is suitable for every medium- or heavy-duty wheel.

E900 has several documented truck and lug-centric options

Coats lists 8300000400 as a Light Truck Kit, 8113277C as a Light Truck Cone Kit and 85009945 as a Toyota Adapter Kit among the E900's optional accessories. The current catalog also lists a 40 mm shaft for the E900.

What to check: choose the accessory for the wheel type you actually service; a Toyota lug-centric kit and a large-bore truck cone solve different mounting problems.

Atlas · 40 mm

ATEATWB-LTA adds a large cone and spacer

Atlas part ATEATWB-LTA is a large truck adapter set for 40 mm shafts. Atlas says the large cone is for wheels whose center hole exceeds the range of the standard cone set, while the spacer moves deeply offset truck wheels away from the machine for clearance.

What to check: confirm the exact Atlas balancer and its wheel-capacity limits separately. A 40 mm shaft statement alone is not used here as proof that every Atlas 40 mm model supports the same truck assembly.

Ranger · two shaft sizes

5150555 and 5150032 are not interchangeable

Ranger 5150555 is for a 36 mm shaft. Ranger 5150032 is for a 40 mm shaft. Both use a large double-sided centering component with a spacer and cover hub openings around 4.75 to 6.75 inches.

What to check: Ranger's current DST2420X page recommends 5150032, but the same page gives two different shaft sizes: its feature section says 40 mm while its specification table says 1.5 inches. Because the 5150032 accessory page explicitly requires a 40 mm shaft, Tire Equipment Match does not treat that DST2420X pairing as confirmed until Ranger reconciles the conflicting machine specification.

Hunter · medium-duty centering

Collets, center rings and flange plates work as a system

Hunter publishes medium-duty collets such as 192-264-2 and 192-265-2, plus the 192-242-2 220/221 mm centering ring. Hunter states that these parts are compatible with Hunter wheel balancers, but some are used with an adjustable or fixed flange-plate kit.

What to check: order the complete mounting arrangement required for the wheel. A single collet may not be the only component needed for a medium-duty assembly.

Match the adapter to the wheel type—not just the vehicle badge

Large hub-centric wheels often need a larger cone or collet with a spacer or backing plate. Lug-centric wheels may need a pin plate or flange plate that locates the wheel from the bolt pattern. Some manufacturer kits are vehicle-family specific, such as Coats' Toyota adapter, because they reproduce the way particular lug-centric wheels are located on the vehicle.

The wheel's construction is therefore more useful than a broad label such as “truck.” A light-duty pickup wheel, a 19.5-inch commercial wheel and a 22.5-inch tractor-trailer wheel can require very different centering hardware and may belong on different classes of balancer.

  1. Balancer model and shaft: confirm the exact machine and the manufacturer-published shaft or clamping system.
  2. Wheel assembly weight: stay within the balancer's published wheel-weight limit.
  3. Wheel and rim dimensions: check diameter and width limits independently from the center-bore size.
  4. Centering method: determine whether the wheel is hub-centric, lug-centric or needs a manufacturer-specific flange arrangement.
  5. Hub or bore range: verify that the cone, collet or ring actually covers the wheel's locating diameter.
  6. Companion parts: confirm any spacer, backing plate, pressure cup, flange plate or wheel lift needed for the complete setup.

Match the kit to the balancer shaft and wheel-center range first. A generic truck-adapter listing does not increase the balancer’s published capacity.
